Pierre Arpin, Director & Chief Executive Officer

/ Pierre Arpin is an experienced museum professional who has been actively involved in museum and art gallery management for more than 20 years. In his most recent role as Director, Museums and Art Galleries of the Northern Territory, Pierre oversaw the transition of the museum from a division of a government department to a stand-alone statutory authority. Prior to this, Pierre held the position of General Manager, Collections and Exhibitions Management at the National Gallery of Victoria where he oversaw six departments of this significant art museum. In Canada, Pierre held the following directorships: The Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and the Art Gallery of Sudbury. Pierre has held senior management roles at the Canada Council for the Arts (Head, Visual Arts) and at the Ottawa Art Gallery. In 2004, Pierre was appointed by the Governor in Council of the Parliament of Canada to the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board, a position he held until 2007. Encouraging best practice and professional dialogue in the field of museum and art galleries, Pierre chaired the Canadian Art Museum Directors Organisation (2003-2005). He participated as an Executive Committee Member for the Council of Australasian Museum Directors (2012-2015); as a member of the National Council of Museums Australia (2013-15); and as a member of the Council of Australian Art Museum Directors (2011-2015). Pierre holds an M.A. (Art History) from the Université de Montréal and a BFA (Visual Arts – Honours, Studio) from the University of Ottawa. 



Steven Gallant, Business Manager

/ Steven Gallant is the Business Manager at Contemporary Calgary where he has a diverse range of responsibilities in the management of services and processes that support business development. Steven oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization while implementing systems and solutions, creating value, and supporting programs and activity with a focus on finance and audit.



Lisa Baldissera, Senior Curator

/ Lisa Baldissera has worked in curatorial roles in public art galleries throughout Western Canada and as an independent curator, consultant, and writer for over 15 years. She was Curator of Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Chief Curator at the Mendel Art Gallery and has produced more than fifty exhibitions of local, Canadian, and international artists.  She holds MFAs in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia and in Art from the University of Saskatchewan, and is currently a PhD student at Goldsmiths College, University of London. She has served on contemporary art juries across Canada, including the RBC Canadian Painting Competition, the Sobey Art Award, the Saskatchewan Arts Board and the British Columbia Arts Council and was a Professional Affiliate at the University of Saskatchewan as well as a contributing editor for the Arts Canada Institute online art book series, where she produced a publication on Emily Carr. 


Nate McLeod, Associate Curator

/ Nate McLeod is an artist, curator, and arts administrator who received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction from the Alberta College of Art + Design in 2010. In addition to his current role as Associate Curator of Contemporary Calgary, McLeod has immersed himself in the visual arts scene in Calgary as the Co-Founder & Programming Director of AVALANCHE! Institute of Contemporary Art and the former Editor of Fresh Bread Daily while also maintaining an active studio practice. His work has been included in exhibitions across Canada, and he has received funding from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and Calgary 2012. 


Lauren Kibler, Marketing and Special Events Manager

/ Lauren Kibler is an fine arts professional who brings a strong and varied background in marketing, event coordination, project management and a thorough understanding of the greater art market to Contemporary Calgary. She oversees Contemporary Calgary’s marketing initiatives, organizes public and special events, manages sponsor contracting and fulfillment, and coordinates volunteers. Lauren holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a minor in Art History from Mount Royal University (2013) and is currently completing her Master of Arts in Art Business from Sotheby's Institute of Art, New York.
