ML CRSH is a video work that was developed using a 3D gaming engine environment for self-driving vehicles. The work is inspired by the 1975 performance Media Burn by the Ant Farm collective where a customized Cadillac was driven into a wall of flaming television sets- a spectacle created to critique mass media and the passive role played by consumers. In Ginzburg ’s video, algorithmically supported visualizations draw from systems of in-vehicle navigation testing and car accident scenarios as well as from public art and urban design. Staged as a fetishist and absurdist parody on contemporary art and public spectacle, the work features a montage of crashes of autonomous vehicles into digital replicas of art objects.
