Contemporary Calgary Celebrates AUArts Centennial with Free Memberships for Students
In celebration of the milestone, the gallery removes barriers to access and invites AUArts students to connect, collaborate and be inspired
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 24, 2026
Calgary, AB – As Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) celebrates its 100th year, a new collaboration with Contemporary Calgary is expanding access to art and community for the next generation of artists.
In recognition of the milestone, Contemporary Calgary is offering complimentary annual memberships throughout 2026 to all currently enrolled AUArts undergraduate and graduate students. The announcement celebrates the deep connection between the two institutions and demonstrates Contemporary Calgary’s commitment to supporting the artists and creative voices who shape the future of the cultural landscape.
AUArts has played a defining role in Alberta’s arts ecosystem for generations, educating artists whose work contributes to exhibitions, cultural programming and creative industries across Alberta and around the world.
“AUArts develops extraordinary creative talent,” said David Leinster, CEO of Contemporary Calgary. “By removing barriers to access for current students, we’re ensuring that the next generation of artists has the opportunity to engage with contemporary art, connect with creative communities, and see themselves reflected in the future of the cultural sector.”
“This collaboration is an example of how Calgary’s creative community comes together to support emerging artists. Contemporary Calgary is opening their doors to our students — creating greater access to enriching experiences and to the work of local and international artists that will shape their learning and creative paths,” adds Dr. Janis Goldie, President & CEO, Alberta University of the Arts.
The collaboration is part of AUArts’ centennial celebrations, marking a century of creativity, community and impact. AUArts is one of only three post-secondary institutions in Alberta to reach the 100-year milestone.
