Following these presentations, a panel discussion between Norman, Polo, and Ripley will be led by Amery Calvelli, co-founder and Executive Director of d.talks, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the education and public understanding of art, architecture, and design in the built environment.

CONTEMPORARY KIDS

Replicating Artifacts

Sunday, May 7, 2017
2:00-4:00 PM | FREE

Each iteration of this monthly series will focus on one specific artwork, artist, or theme found in our current exhibitions, welcoming families for a brief tour followed by an engaging activity developed specifically for children, ages 5-12.

Replicating Artifacts will have children recreate a famous sculpture out of wax, linking to exhibiting artist Morehshin Allahyari's sculptures. Allahyari's sculptures replicate destroyed artifacts using a 3D printer, embedding a microchip containing images, maps, information, and videos to memorialize these lost works. The wax blocks will correspond to information about the sculpture the child chooses to recreate. Children will be taught basic carving skills and techniques.

Registration required.
