What happens when tomorrow's voices engage with today's questions?
Growing up means constantly moving through new spaces, relationships, expectations, and ideas. As artists, we move through questions too—testing materials, challenging assumptions, noticing what connects us, and imagining new ways of understanding ourselves, each other, and the world around us. Art offers a place to pause, observe, and reconsider the spaces we inhabit, the systems we navigate, and the stories we choose to tell.
In Flux is the culmination of Contemporary Calgary's week-long Summer Intensive: Art Practices for Teens, bringing together works by fourteen young artists. Throughout the intensive, the artists transformed the gallery into a site of experimentation, self-discovery, and social reflection. Together, the works reflect different ways of asking questions, making connections, and responding to the world around them. They capture adolescence as a moment of being in flux—full of curiosity, change, and the possibilities of becoming.
Developed through Contemporary Calgary's ongoing partnership with Arts Umbrella, Summer Intensive: Art Practices for Teens is a scholarship-supported program. The exhibition features works created under the mentorship of artist-educator Andre Seow and members of Contemporary Calgary's Education team.
