Exhibition // STEPHEN AVENUE LOCATION

EXHIBITION / November 24, 2016 - February 19, 2017
RECEPTION / Thursday, November 24, 5:00 PM | FREE | ARTISTS IN ATTENDANCE

Contemporary Calgary / 117 8 Avenue SW, Calgary, Canada

VSVSVS is not concerned with solid architecture. Buildings can bend, walls are permeable and floors are sticky. Fluctuations are meant to be ridden and not resisted. When VSVSVS inhabits space, they cannot help but create accretions and leave greasy fingerprint trails. Although not present for the duration of the show, VSVSVS will be felt poking and encouraging interaction with the installations.

These parallel thoughts inform the body of site-responsive work that has been created for Contemporary Calgary, made up of propositions for three floors: walls that expand, floors that refuse immobility and a giant vibrator.

Please do touch, and it's more fun with friends.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS / VSVSVS (pronounced VERSUS VERSUS VERSUS) is a six-person collective and artist-run centre based out of a warehouse in the Portlands of Toronto, Ontario. Members include Wallis Cheung, Ryan Clayton, Anthony Cooper, James Gardner, Stephen McLeod, and Miles Stemp.

Formed in 2010, their activities encompass collective art making, a residency program, a formal exhibition space, and individual studio practices. Their collective work focuses on the collaborative production of multiples, drawings, video work, sculpture, installations, and performance. An open framework allows each member to play to their own interests and ends, while contributing to a common goal. Working with six heads is an experiment in being together too much and making things constantly.

VSVSVS would like to acknowledge the contributions of former member Laura Simon, the continued support of the DMS Lab, and the Canada Council for the Arts.

Please join us on Thursday, November 24 at 5:00 PM for the Opening Reception of VSVSVS / at the same time.
